A steel lintel is a horizontal support beam placed across the top of an opening in a wall to bear the weight of the structure above and transfer it safely to the supporting walls or columns on either side. Steel lintels are favoured because of their high strength-toweight ratio, meaning they can carry heavy loads while being relatively lightweight and easier to handle during installation.
